[00:00:01] Have you ever wondered why it is that you have challenges in yourself?
[00:00:10] Why it is that we might want to do something and we just don't do it? Or we might not want to not do something and avoid some, you know, old behavior, some bad habit, whatever it is, and it still happens, right? And you're like, how come I can't stop doing the stuff that's bad for me and why can't I do the things that are good for me?
[00:00:32] This is the. Is the big problem that pretty much everyone faces in various ways.
[00:00:40] And so what is the reason for this?
[00:00:42] Why is it that we have a hard time doing the right thing consistently? We might have, you know, a good run, doing things great for a certain amount of time, but then something happens, we get stressed and go back to the old ways. You know, recently I decided I was going to cut off all media for indefinitely. And I managed three weeks before I cracked, which still pretty good. Three weeks. No Internet nonsense, no YouTube, nothing.
[00:01:13] No social media, no news, nothing.
[00:01:16] But then I thought, you know, I just checked this one little thing real quick and it was very convincing to me.
[00:01:26] The little lawyers in my head, oh, you know, there's no big deal, you know, you've been working so hard. You should just check this thing, give yourself a break. Why are you being yourself? Why are you making such a fuss about this? But then that, that wasn't what I wanted to do, right?
[00:01:46] And this applies in every area of our life, whether it's things that we're doing, not doing, food, you know, different substances, or not having substances, or exercise or not exercise, meditation, not meditation. Doing the work we need to do rather than being distracted, it just goes on and on.
[00:02:04] So what's going on here?
[00:02:06] I'll read you a quote, spiritual quote.
[00:02:12] This is a play, Maya.
[00:02:17] Maya means the illusion. The seductive illusion turns you away and God turns you the other way.
[00:02:28] So ultimately, right, this the way to overcome Maya. I'll explain this a bit more. Maya is all the illusion. It's all the negative tendencies that we have in a seductive form.
[00:02:40] So we normally want to do what's good for us, right? But there's another part of us that wants to do something else. And the reason we end up doing the other thing that isn't good for us is because it comes in a very seductive, convincing form, right?
[00:03:02] Very few people just are led into some awful thing that they.
[00:03:08] They know is going to cause them sorrow just like that. You know, there's some sort of seductive reason behind doing it in our head.
[00:03:16] Oh, it's not a big deal. Oh, you know, you deserve it. Oh, something, something, something.
[00:03:22] And so God is trying to help us receive power to overcome these issues.
[00:03:31] And Maya, this seductive form within us is trying to turn our face and our attention towards all these different, fun little things.
[00:03:41] And they all seem very fun and very interesting.
[00:03:45] And Maya is tailor made just for us individually, right? So your Maya is going to be different from my Maya and different from someone else's Maya, you know, so some people, for example, they maybe alcohol is their Maya. Like they know they shouldn't. They know it's bad for them, you know, they know that it's an addiction. They know that it's bad for their health, bad for their mind, but they can't help themselves, right?
[00:04:12] Someone else doesn't. They're not interested in alcohol for various reasons. Doesn't bother them. They can have alcohol all over the place. They're not interested. But something else that's. Oh, look at this, look at this. Could be shopping, can be people, it could be entertainment, could be anything.
[00:04:29] I used to think that Maya doesn't really exist, you know, is it really going on? You know, are we overdoing this? Is this exaggerated? A little bit.
[00:04:39] But as time has gone on in my own life, I've noticed that if I make a commitment to myself that I'm going to do something and I just can't do it, or if I make a commitment not to do something and I find myself doing it anyway, there's something weird going on, don't you think? If we decide what we want to do with our life, we make commitments and we have a plan, we write it down, we said, this is what I'm going to do. And it doesn't happen like, what is going on here? That is Maya.
[00:05:11] Why else would it be happening?
[00:05:17] And Maya is again, seductive and very convincing and somewhat underground and very unassuming, right?
[00:05:33] It happens sort of at the back of our mind and then it gains power and then somehow we're compelled to act or to not act.
[00:05:46] And so the whole point of spirituality is to become elevated, to do noble things, spiritual things, high level things that raise us up to a higher level to our self respect, to our dignity, to our angelic nature.
[00:06:04] And Maya's job is to degrade us, to take us down a step, to get us into the, you know, the mundane, to make the mundane seem mystical somehow.
[00:06:22] It elevates the mundane nonsense so that it seems interesting, only to realize afterwards that there's nothing there.
[00:06:34] And so one of the things that's helpful to have a bit of compassion for this situation is to realize that it's not our fault that this has happened.
[00:06:47] Maya is this seductive force that is gradually takes us over and we're surrounded by other people in that state as well.
[00:06:58] And you could almost say Maya is to a large degree just the animal nature within the human being. You know, just the lower nature, the base nature. And as human beings we have higher nature and we can control ourselves. But this lower nature is going on and you can see it in animals. Animals, right.
[00:07:15] So it's just part of, to some degree, just part of being human, having these different interests and desires.
[00:07:23] And also the actual physical brain itself, as we grow up, it gets wired and programmed through the neural connections, neural pathway connections based on what we have done in our childhood.
[00:07:39] And approximately 80% of our programming is done by the time we're eight years old.
[00:07:45] Eight years old.
[00:07:46] So we can be programmed one way. 80% of our programming in our brain physio physiologically is already done by the time we're eight. And now as we get older and we decide to have a more spiritual, more elevated, more purposeful life, that programming is still running in the background. That's the basis of our day to day experience. It's unconscious. It's the, the background programs that are basically driving everything. It's almost like everything runs through those programs.
[00:08:19] So when we say to ourselves, right, that's it, I'm changing my mind, I've had enough, I'm not doing these things anymore. I'm going to have this different life.
[00:08:27] All that programming is very, very deep. It hasn't just gone away all of a sudden. Just because I decide I'm going to do something different doesn't mean that that program has disappeared.
[00:08:39] It's running away in the background very powerfully.
[00:08:45] And so our spiritual work is gentle and consistent effort to recognize that we have these programs, recognize that we have this seductive lawyer in the back of our head that is trying to convince us to do things. And, and to some degree those thoughts actually are the programs. They are biological to some degree. They're somewhat spiritual, somewhat biological. There's an interface between these two forces.
[00:09:23] And so my own experience is the best way to make progress is actually to avoid the triggers as much as possible, especially in the beginning. Because otherwise we will most likely act out whatever it is that we used to do. Right? If we're used to doing something again and again and again and you're surrounded by that thing and it's very easy to do it it's probably going to just keep happening again and again.
[00:09:51] So until we've rewired ourselves with a new program, it's good to avoid the opportunity to do certain things.
[00:10:00] And then, and it might be years, possibly, until that rewiring has happened, then you can surround yourself with these things and you won't be bothered about it, right? Like, for example, I used to drink alcohol when I was younger.
[00:10:14] And so I was interested in that, right? I can now walk through the store and walk past the alcohol aisles, right? And I'm not putting it in my cart. I'm not. I'm not even interested. I kind of look at it and doesn't have any effect on me because I've rewired myself. That. That's not interesting for me anymore.
[00:10:35] And so what we do is we avoid certain things on purpose to try and make it easier for us. And then the other thing, the key thing, is to remember that we're spiritual beings because that makes us.
[00:10:51] It takes us into a higher state of consciousness where it rewires our brain and it gives us magic power, right? When you become soul conscious, aware that you're a soul, and feel that you're this beautiful light, then your consciousness is interested in divine things and sees the mundane things for what they are.
[00:11:21] And so you feel elevated, you feel liberated in life.
[00:11:30] There's a great quote. Those old habits in body consciousness. When we think we're this body and we're in our animal nature in that consciousness, all our old habits are there.
[00:11:43] But when we become soul consciousness, they basically disappear in that state. We're operating from a different reality.
[00:11:55] And so we're just not interested in these things.
[00:11:59] And so ultimately, the more we practice, I am this light, I am completely free, completely pure.
[00:12:10] That leads to that feeling of lightness and liberation, and that strengthens a higher version of ourselves. It changes our brain state and it reinforces who we are on a deeper level.
[00:12:34] And then as we remember God, God is like a shining light shining down a point of light that is shining. Then we get extra power to reinforce that spiritual identity.
[00:12:55] And that makes us feel very relaxed and liberated.
[00:13:01] And so, Maya, the illusion is going to try and get us focused on the mundane and make it seem like it's special.
[00:13:10] Whereas our job as spiritual warriors is to focus on our original self and to connect with God, with the source, with the purifier, with the one who has the power to properly and fully reprogram our brain and our consciousness.
[00:13:30] The most important thing is the soul. The spirit is reprogrammed but as a result of that the body as well and the brain is upgraded because unless the brain is rewired then those because we're in a body those tendencies are going to act out, right?
[00:13:54] So this is a very deep practice. So next time you find yourself compelled to do something or feeling cravings for something then just recognize what's going on is that your brain is addicted to this chemically and your body and the programs are running in the background since you were a child.
[00:14:12] And the solution to that is to remove the things out of your life as much as you can so that you don't get triggered as much make your life easier and be in elevated company. Remember you're a spiritual being.
[00:14:29] Connect with God, feel the good vibrations filling you up and keep facing the sun, facing the light and over time success gets grounded into our being.
[00:14:52] Thank you for being here. This is Ray Deep.
[00:14:57] Many blessings. Have a beautiful day.
